History & Philosophy
The Lasley Centre opened its doors at Vint Hill in June 2011, with the goal of providing excellence in dance training for students in Fauquier, Prince William, and the surrounding counties of Northern Virginia. Since that time, our school has grown to over five times its original size, and we have moved into a custom-designed state-of-the-art facility. Our dancers have been selected for prestigious summer intensives with major ballet companies such as ABT and Boston Ballet, and have participated in performances with the Joffrey Ballet and NYCB at the Kennedy Center.
It is important to us that we provide this excellent training in the arts within a positive environment designed to promote the growth of the whole person. Our instructors possess the training, technical skills, and professional performing experience required to prepare students to pursue careers in the arts, and continually work to ensure that all students, regardless of career goals, derive enrichment from time spent learning with us. In order to ensure that we meet this goal, we are the only school in the area with a fully professional staff – we do not employ our students to teach our classes.
Students at the Lasley Centre benefit from our school-wide emphasis on personal responsibility, both in terms of their practice and performance in their artistic disciplines and their conduct outside our school. We also value and teach etiquette, proper speaking, and appropriate behavior, gently guiding our students in areas including attire and poise. Finally, we encourage excellent nutritional habits and positive body image, celebrating students’ individuality without reinforcing negative stereotypes.
Our school is a positive place to learn and grow thanks to the combined efforts of students, parents, instructors, administrators, volunteers, and patrons. We hope you will join us in celebrating the arts and in nurturing young artists in our community. To that end, the Lasley Centre is proud to be a founding member of the Fauquier Arts Council.
