Early Childhood Program
Incorporating classes for children 6 months through 6 years of age, the Lasley Centre early childhood program is designed to introduce our youngest students to the joy of movement and music, taught by early childhood educators with years of experience. For children up to 4 years of age, caregivers may remain in the class, while students beginning at age 3 may take classes independently to begin learning the basics of dance. These classes prepare students to enter the core ballet sequence once they have reached the appropriate age and skill level.
Core Ballet Sequence
The heart of the Lasley Centre program is the core ballet sequence. Incorporating levels I-IV, partnering, pointe, and a separate class specifically for men and boys, the core ballet sequence is designed to train students using sound ballet principles, incorporating elements of the French, Italian and Russian schools of training to provide students with a strong background in classical ballet technique and the ability to succeed in different styles and techniques of dance. Several Lasley Centre instructors are ABT® Certified Teachers, having successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive of the ABT® National Training Curriculum, which serves as a blueprint for much of the Lasley Centre core ballet program.
Additional Dance Genres
Dance at the Lasley Centre is not only about ballet. We also offer the area’s best instruction in a variety of other disciplines, including multiple levels of jazz, hip hop, modern, tap, and character, all taught by current and former professional dancers. Dancers in these classes have the opportunity to showcase their skills at our recitals, in performances at festivals and community events, and as guest artists in local musical theater productions.
At the Lasley Centre, we believe dance is a lifelong activity. As such, we offer adult classes in both ballet and jazz.
Strength & Flexibility Training
Dance is a full-body workout, so proper strength and flexibility training is important to achieve maximum success. The Lasley Centre offers a pilates class to help our dancers cross-train. Classes of this type are generally open to all ages, including adults.
Adaptive Dance Program
We are humbled to have the opportunity to work with children and adolescents who have emotional, behavioral, learning, sensory and/or physical challenges, using dance and creative movement as a way to bring out their unique strengths and gifts. Our Adaptive Dance Program lead teacher is completing her third and final year of dance therapy certification classes in New York this summer, and holds a Master’s Degree in social work, making her ideally suited for this program.
