Tap Dance

Our program builds musicality, coordination, and clean footwork while giving dancers a fun, percussive outlet that pairs naturally with their ballet training.

Rhythm, Sound & Musicality

Dancers learn to build a strong foundation in tap vocabulary while developing timing, clarity, and control. Classes begin with a warm-up and progress through footwork drills, rhythm exercises, and combinations that grow more intricate as skills develop.
Through the classes, dancers become more comfortable improvising rhythms and performing choreographed tap combinations with confidence and precision.

All Tap placements are by individual assessment.

Tap dance at The Lasley Centre:

A fun combination class perfect for young dancers who want to explore rhythm through both jazz movement and tap sounds. This energetic class introduces basic jazz vocabulary alongside fundamental tap steps, all set to age-appropriate, upbeat music.

What to Expect:

  • Playful warm-up combining jazz isolations with tap rhythms
  • Basic jazz movements (marches, skips, simple turns)
  • Introduction to tap vocabulary (shuffles, toe taps, stamps)
  • Creative movement games incorporating both styles
  • Simple choreography that combines jazz and tap elements
  • Focus on musical awareness and having fun with rhythm

Our Tap program exposes students to a range of musical styles and rhythmic traditions:

Musical Genres:

Tap Dance Instruction in Northern Virginia

Offering dance classes in many genres, the Lasley Centre is convenient to Prince William County (Bristow, Haymarket, Gainesville, Manassas, and Nokesville areas) and Fauquier County (Warrenton, Bealeton, Marshall, and Remington areas). We also have students who come from Culpeper and surrounding areas.

I started 2 of my daughters at the Lasley Centre this year and am very happy with my decision. Each of my girls have taken dance since they were 2, they are now 5 and 6, and they were doing more technique in their first class at Lasley than over the past four years combined. The instructor does a wonderful job teaching them ballet while building their confidence and creativity.
