modern

Modern I: Monday 5:00 – 6:00 PM

Modern II: Thursday 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Modern III: Friday 5:30 – 6:30 PM

Modern IV: Friday 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Ballet required; by audition only

Our modern dance classes are based on the Graham technique. Students will learn the fundamentals of classical American modern dance and explore the expression and freedom of movement the technique allows. Classes include traditional Graham floor work, movements across the floor, and choreography.

jazz

Jazz I: Thursday 4:30 – 5:30 PM

Jazz II: Tuesday 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Jazz III: Wednesday 7:30 – 8:30 PM

Jazz IV: Friday 7:30 – 8:30 PM

Dancers will use their technique foundation to dance to Pop, Hip Hop, and R&B music as well as Broadway show tunes. Classes will begin with proper warm-up and continue with isolation, balance, flexibility stretches. Dancers will become comfortable expressing movement through freestyle and choreography.

Please note: all students enrolled in Jazz II and above must also be enrolled in an appropriate Ballet class, or have 2 years of prior ballet experience, or receive special approval from the instructor to enroll.

hip-hop

Beginning Hip-Hop: Monday 6:00 – 7:00 PM

Intermediate Hip-Hop: Tuesday 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Advanced Hip-hop: Tuesday 5:30 – 6:30 PM

Hip-hop dance refers to street dancing styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of the hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles within the genre itself. This energetic popular dance style involves the whole body and and is about self-expression through technical movement.

character

Character I: Saturday 9:00 – 10:00 AM

Character II: Saturday 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Character III: Saturday 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Character IV: Saturday 12:00 – 1:00 PM

Character dance is rooted in traditional folk dances, with a vocabulary different from that of classical ballet. Students will be introduced to this dance vocabulary and will learn correct technique and style for character dance, which makes up much of classical ballet’s repertoire.

Tap I: Thursday 5:30 – 6:30 PM

Tap II: Tuesday 5:30 – 6:30 PM

Tap III: Wednesday 6:30 – 7:00 PM*

An introduction to basic tap vocabulary (shuffles, flaps, paddle n rolls, riffs), with a strong focus on developing good tap technique. Students will also begin to learn historical tap pieces (Shim-Sham, Coles Stroll) that will help them gain an understanding of the importance of timing and musicality.

*Students enrolled in Tap III must purchase the Black Capezio Cadence Tap Shoe for classes. This level is dancing at a more advance level which requires more support in their shoes. Purchase the shoes here.
